Use way less soap and hot water.
one : soak dishes in a wash tub or one side of a partitioned sink using cold water as they pile up (without agitation, cold water does as much soaking as hot when left standing)
two : after soaking, brush loosened food off the dishes and discard the cold dishwater (you have done 75% of the job without hot water or soap)
three : run hot water over a dish, over the wash tub or stoppered sink, while scouring off stuck food (this collects the hot water)
four : use soap on a dish rag and scrub the greasy pots and dishes directly (soap diluted in the water is far less effective)
five : place the soap-scrubbed dishes in a second tub or sink partition
six : after filling the second tub with scrubbed dishes, rinse all those dishes quickly under warm warm water under the faucet over that second tub and stack in a drying rack (I use my unused dishwasher)
seven : pour the warm rinse water into the initial wash tub and repeat the scrub/rinse process until all the dishes are in the drying rack
eight : in winter, keep the warm water until it’s cold; (it’s heating your house) and then feed it to your hungry sewer bacteria or happy plants
